What is your very first memory of money?
I'll let you think about that while I dig deep into my own memory bank.
My first memory? Well, I must have been about six, and I've never admitted this to anyone before, but I climbed onto a kitchen counter, stole a coin from a jar in the cupboard (nickel or dime probably), and bought some candy at the store down the block. Isn't that terrible? My first memory of money involves criminal activity! Makes you wonder how (or if) that affected my relationship with money at all, snort. How about you?

I can't remember!!! I know I had a piggy bank, but I can't remember anything about it or when I got it. I remember getting allowance, but I don't remember when it started or when it ended. I remember getting babysitting money and I *think* I was 12 years old. Then I stopped babysitting after we moved to a different state. I got a job in an office through a school work program when I was in HS, but I don't remember how much I got paid per hour. I know when I was a kid, my brothers and I each got a quarter (it had to be a quarter, but even this I don't specifically remember!) to put in the collection plate at church. When I was 12 and had a little money of my own, I vaguely remember putting a dollar in one of the envelopes they provided for the collection plate and writing my name on that and feeling good, not proud, but good that I was doing it. Now that your post has me thinking, I have no real relationship with money which is maybe how I ended up living dangerously. Ha ha! But I really don't have any specific memory of money from my childhood/youth. By the way, I wouldn't feel too bad about your own first memory. All kids do that, I think. Maybe a few don't, but I think most do. I did. But I don't remember when or how much!!!!

All kids are thieves? Okay, maybe it's just a rite of passage then, and not a personal moral failing on my part, snort.
I never did have a piggy bank until I got the blue one in the corner of the blog. I babysat as well, and also got the "baby bonus" that mom let me be in charge of. I started working after school and in weekends when I was 15, so I guess my financial life began early.
Thanks for sharing your money memories! :)
