This is to follow up the comment I left on the Humour Book link. ... I can not find it, but I know that back when I lived in Brooklyn I saw a show that said once a person has been out of work for a certain length of time, the statistics show a certain percentage chance (and it was high) that they would never work again. I don't bring home money, but I definitely work and have had a regular schedule at the shelter for a long time. But I can see myself fitting into this pattern because I take my job at the shelter so seriously, I am sure it has affected my looking for a paying job. It's been a while since I've done any pet sitting, too. Anyway, I love your book and it should have been published!

Ugh. That's what I get for not previewing my comment. The comment above should be more clear about fitting into the statistic of working for money. I do believe that people who are not employed for money often DO quite a lot. I don't make any money, but I am at least as busy as people who go to paying jobs. A lot of folks are that way.

Hi Krissa, glad you liked the book! I'll respond to the statistic part of the comment on the book page.
Yes, I think we (society that is, not the two of us) often forget to make the distinction between work and work for pay, and assume that if there's no money involved, then there's no work either. Not true of course! Moms who work in the home is a good example of that, and also of how we tend to undervalue whatever is not financially compensated. Sad.
I, like yourself, have never needed a paying job to keep busy, or to be productive, or even of value, but like most others, do need the dollars again at some point. ;)
