And like it even better when I can combine sales with coupons. When an item is already $2 or $3 lower when on sale AND I have a $1 or $2 coupon, then that makes me a happy camper indeed. One week in particular I was on a roll as it seemed that every item I wanted and had a coupon for, was also on sale. I think I saved about $30 in total that week!

Now I know that some people don't use or like coupons, but to me they're as good (and almost as fun) as finding a loonie (Canadian dollar coin) or toonie (Canadian two dollar coin) on the street. Of course you have to be sensible and not drive all over town spending more money on gas then you would actually save with the coupon, but in general they can be worth using. Especially if you're going to buy the item anyway.

Not! At least, not in my case. Tomorrow I start my first 12-hour shift and do another on Sunday, but as a lowly worker instead of a boss. Still, I can't really complain. Even though the weekend tires me out (I'm literally on my feet for almost 23 of the 24 hours), it's nice to be able to compress my primary job into two days. I mean, how many other people can say that their official workweek is two days on, five days off? Snort.

what is money anyway?

I mean, we all recognize it when we see it, but what exactly is it? According to The Houghton Mifflin Canadian Dictionary of the English Language, money is: 1. A commodity such as gold or silver that is legally established as an exchangeable equivalent of all other commodities and is used as a measure of their comparitive values on the market. 2. The official currency, coins and negotiable paper notes, issued by a government. 3. Assets and property that may be converted into actual currency. 4. Pecuniary profit or loss. 5. Any unspecified amount of currency.

Okay, I get that, but why does it still strike me as strange that we've all managed to agree that certain pieces of paper and small metal objects constitute money, and others don't? Why does the whole exchange ritual still seem slightly bizarre? And why does the above definition seem so incomplete? Where is the psychology of it all? Because to me, money just feels like so much more.

a lazy beginning

The first post! And of course after planning this blog for months, I'm now drawing a complete blank. Not to worry though, I have lots of ideas for future posts. But for now I suggest you peruse the About page if you want to get a better sense of the who, what, and why. And how I possibly came up with the blog title.

Done? Good. Oh, in case you're wondering about the multiple income streams I mentioned, right now they include a part-time gig in a rest home, independent house cleaning, and selling on eBay. But more about that later. Let the blog begin!
